Hunting in the Powell River
Area
The Powell River
area has some of the best Blacktail hunting around. Logging over
the past few years has opened up much more territory and created
good hunting slashes. This has resulted in some of the nicest
bucks being harvested recently. Prime time hunting season in Powell
River is Nov. 1 to Nov. 20. Bring your fly rod and Oyster knife
as there is also abundant seafood and lake fishing.
Hunting
on Texada
Texada Island
is one of Sansalone's favorite places to hunt Blacktail. Access
to Texada is via a 20 minute ferry ride from Powell River. Once
there be prepared to see some nice Blacktails and some of the
nicest camping sites around. Hunters are able to take 3 deer (2)
off of Texada and chances are you will not go home empty handed.
This past year was one of the most productive years on Texada,
with some of the nicest bucks taken in a long time. Prime time
hunting season on Texada is Nov. 1 to Nov. 20. Also be sure to
check you reg for the junior and doe season.
Elk in the Powell River
Area
Over the last several
years, the Roosevelt Elk transplanted in Powell River have done
very well. So well that we now have a L.E.H Hunt every year.
Check your L.E.H. Synopsis for info on this. If you are lucky
enough to get a tag, make room in your freezer because chances
are you will cut your tag.
For a great
outdoor experience and to get away from the crowds, come to Powell
River and enjoy - guaranteed you will not be disappointed.
